Arpitha Anna Jacob
Assistant Professor
Dr. Arpitha Anna Jacob is an assistant professor of psychology at DLHS, bringing extensive expertise in clinical psychology and cognitive neuroscience. She earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Karnataka, India. Additionally, she holds an M.Phil. in Mental Health & Social Psychology from NIMHANS, an MA in Psychology from Delhi University, and a BA in Psychology from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala. An expert in the neural basis of social cognition, she investigates how our brains process emotions, trust, and empathy. Her research, spanning cognitive assessments and advanced neuroimaging techniques, is instrumental in developing improved treatments for severe mental health disorders. She has authored over 25 publications in prestigious international journals (full list available here). In her most recent roles, she has been consulting as a neuropsychologist, where she set up and implemented protocols for cognitive assessments for neurological and psychiatric conditions. She also served as guest faculty at various universities in Bangalore, teaching post-graduate psychology students. From 2015 to 2021, she was a Research Associate at NIMHANS, managing a multi-disciplinary neuroscience research lab. Earlier in her career, she held positions at the Indian Institute of Science, Human Dynamic, and St. John's Research Institute, gaining experience in research and project management. Her work has been recognized with several awards, including a travel award to speak at ENCODS 2019, organized by the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies, and the AIDS International Training and Research Program (AITRP) fellowship by Fogarty International to pursue a DrPH at the University of California at Berkeley. Dr. Jacob is dedicated to fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment in both her research and teaching. She actively collaborates with experts from institutions in India and abroad.
