Dr. Sherin Jose

Assistant Professor

Belonging to the disciplinary domain of Political Science, Sherin holds undergraduate and post graduate degrees in Political Science from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi University and Centre for Political Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University respectively. A recipient of the Rani Raghunath Sahai Award and Randhir Singh Award for the best student in Political Science (LSR), Sherin is currently pursuing her doctoral research (thesis submitted) at the National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bengaluru. Situated at the disciplinary interstices of critical border studies, political anthropology of the Himalayas and north-east India, her doctoral work engages with the multi-faceted nature of border-making and state building in the Sino-Indian (Indo-Tibetan) border district of Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh. A multi-sited research endeavour which also looks at one of the monastic centres of learning at the Tibetan settlement at Bylakuppe, Karnataka and its reimagined connections with Tawang, her work also problematises the dichotomised idea of border which is singularly guided by the idea of permeability. Parts of her research have been published as Scopus indexed journal article and as book chapters (Sage and Springer). She has also presented her doctoral work at diverse international conferences including the Third International Border Studies Conference held at Texas. Prior to embarking her doctoral journey, she has also taught at the Department of Political Science at Miranda House and Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University.
