M.Sc. Clinical Psychology Course
The department of psychiatry, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Mangalore offers M.Sc. Clinical Psychology program. It is the first of its kind in India which offers a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology in a clinical setting. This program saw its inception in 2016 at the Mangalore campus after it was inducted at the parent unit at the Manipal campus.
M.Sc. Clinical Psychology course provides academic coursework, clinical observations and supervision by trained clinicians that prepare graduate students for careers in the mental health field. The course comprises both theory and practice in different core areas of clinical psychology included in the curriculum.
Highlights of the Programme
· Imparts thorough theoretical knowledge of mental disorders/psychopathology, assessments and therapy.
· Trains students to see cases to gather adequate clinical history, administer relevant psychological assessments and provide counselling or psychotherapy by applying theoretical knowledge in practice.
· Students learn how to undertake scientific research.
· Motivates students to participate in conferences and present papers at national and international conferences.
· Students are encouraged to publish their research work in peer-reviewed national and international journals.

Clinical Postings: Students will be posted once or twice a week in each of the following for hands-on training with patients having mental disorders- KMC Hospital, Attavar, Mangalore and Government District Wenlock Hospital, Mangalore.
Career Prospects: Upon the successful completion of this course, one can opt to work either in a public medical institution/university or in a private hospital or a clinic under supervision as a psychologist. Teaching and research are also other career options available.
