“Can artificial intelligence (AI) aid in clinical diagnosis of Critical Congenital Heart Disease (CCHD)?”

Principal Investigator : Dr Navneeta Sasikumar

Co Investigator: Dr Akkatai S. Teli

OVERVIEW Prevalence of CHD in children is 6-8 / 1000 live-births, which amounts to 10% of infant mortality. New-borns with Critical CHD require surgery or intervention in the first year of life, without which they succumb to the disease or become inoperable. Hence, timely detection is the key. Aims & objectives of our study: 1. To study if AI based diagnostic approach can provide a diagnosis in new-borns with Critical CHD 2. To assess errors while using the app for diagnostic purpose, such that improvements in AI algorithms can be made accordingly.

“Severe Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension in Healthy Young Infants – A Catastrophic Conundrum”

Principal Investigator : Dr Koushik Handattu

Co Investigator: Dr Akkatai S. Teli

OVERVIEW Acute onset of metabolic acidosis and Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH) in healthy young infants are increasingly reported from India. Definitive etiopathogenesis of this entity is still elusive. Many have reported possible thiamine deficiency as causative, based on clinical response to empiric thiamine supplementation. In our centre, we are handling large number of such infants since last few years. However, pattern of cases and outcome from coastal part of India is not reported till now. Hence, this study was conducted to report our experience in handling this catastrophic conundrum.
