ABOUT THE DIVISION
The Division of Reproductive Biology, established in 2022 under the Department of Reproductive Science (formerly known as Clinical Embryology) at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, Karnataka. The division is dedicated to pioneering research and education in reproductive sciences, with a focus on understanding the intricate mechanisms that govern fertility, development, and reproductive health. We follow multidisciplinary approach that integrates molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, physiology, and biotechnology to explore fundamental and applied aspects of reproductive biology.
M.Sc in Reproductive and Developmental Biology
M.Sc. in Reproductive and Developmental Biology is a full-time, 2 years master degree program. In-depth training will be provided to the students in basic reproductive physiology, early embryo development, post implantation development, contraception, reproductive toxicology and teratology. The course curriculum involves interactive lectures, group discussions, one-to-one training and exposure to cutting edge techniques. Students will have an opportunity to get the research experience by engaging in six months research project on a specific aspect of reproductive/ developmental biology and internship in the industry. The division also offers integrated PhD program in Reproductive Biology for talented B.Sc. student, enabling them to save nearly a year compared to the traditional master's-to-PhD route.
Admission: Admission to this course is through the Common Entrance Test conducted by MAHE, followed by an interview. Call for admissions is advertised on the website.
Eligibility: B. Sc. with one of the subject in Reproduction / Biotechnology / Zoology / Biochemistry/ Biosciences / Physiology / Microbiology or with any other relevant biological science subjects with 60% aggregate or equivalent.
Duration: 2 years (4 semesters)
Semester 1: Physiology of Reproduction |
Semester 3: Developmental Biology and Teratology |
Semester 2: Conception, Contraception and Reproductive toxicology |
Semester 4: Research Project and Internship |
Career prospects: The candidates will have a variety of next-step career avenues such as, higher studies for doctoral degree (PhD), scientists in industries/ pharmaceutical companies/R&D laboratories/ toxicology laboratories or teaching/pedagogy.
Integrated MSc-PhD Program
The Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. in Reproductive and Developmental Biology is a comprehensive program designed for students who aim to seamlessly transition from master's level coursework to doctoral research. This program provides a robust foundation in reproductive and developmental biology, followed by advanced research training to prepare students for leadership roles in academia, industry, and clinical research.
Ph.D. program
The doctoral program is designed for scholars aiming to pursue a career in academic research, biotechnology, or clinical science. This program provides an in-depth understanding of the molecular, cellular, and physiological aspects of reproductive and developmental biology, fostering the development of innovative research skills.
Postdoctoral program
The Postdoctoral Program in Reproductive and Developmental Biology is designed for recent Ph.D. graduates who seek advanced training and research opportunities in the field. This program offers a unique platform to refine research skills, engage in cutting-edge projects, and prepare for independent scientific careers in academia, industry, or clinical settings.
Research
The Division is dedicated to advancing the understanding of reproductive processes and health through rigorous scientific research. Our mission is to improve reproductive health outcomes and develop innovative therapeutic strategies for reproductive disorders. Our research spans molecular, cellular, and physiological levels, aiming to address key questions in fertility, pregnancy, and reproductive system diseases.
