Overview
The Department of Mathematics at Manipal Institute of Technology was started in 1957 and provides the students with the mathematical foundation required to analyze all engineering and applied science courses. Apart from this, it also provides the mathematical methods to formulate, analyze and to solve the problems of engineering and management through the higher level and elective courses. The department caters to undergraduate courses through regular and elective subjects, PG courses like M.Tech, MCA, as well as pure and applied mathematics in the other consistent institutions of Manipal Academy of Higher Education.
The department offers M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs in Mathematics. The department has been offering a 2-year course in M.Sc. in Mathematics since 2009. The course focuses to provide strong foundations in pure and applied mathematics. M.Sc. course also offers many open electives in specialized areas of pure and applied mathematics.

The department is well supported by the Institute placement team. The placement team is headed by Associate Director (Industrial Liaison, Placement & Practice School) and oversees the entire placement process in the institution with the help of department coordinators. Our students are placed in educational technologies companies namely Byju's, Aakash, Unacademy, Stay Qrious, Sciensation.tv etc. Our students are also placed in private sector companies namely TCS, Infosys, Amazon, Signify Innovations India Limited, HDB Financial Service Limited, Zero Mass Pvt. Ltd, D'Well Informatics & Services Pvt. Ltd. Students also have opportunities for academic and research positions in various premier institutions.
