MA in Media and Communication - Overview
Overview:
The flagship MAMC program is an intensive learning path with two goals: one, to prepare students keen on entering the media industry to master the skills to become an expert media professional and communication executive and, two, to aid students keen on research and doctoral studies to strengthen their conceptual underpinnings in media and communication studies research.
The program focuses on industry-relevant subjects such as Digital Marketing, Corporate Communication, Advertising, Public Relations, Event Management, Media Analytics and AI, Radio & Podcast Production, TV Production, Digital News, Print Journalism, Entertainment Content Production, and Media Research.
Program Structure:
This program is spread over four semesters or two years, with an immersive industry internship at the end of the second semester and a thesis/dissertation submission at the end of the third semester.
Specializations details:
Communication Management: The specialization prepares the students for the corporate world using a combination of classroom teaching, industry interactions, and live projects in brand planning, digital marketing, corporate communication, and event management. The flagship events such as Namma Angadi and Namma Santhe effectively blend student engagement and hands-on learning.
Broadcast Media: The specialization blends theory and practical approach with subjects like television news and studio production, radio news and production, and a project - production and screening of a documentary /short film. The state-of-the-art sound and television studio as well as the MAC labs ensure an applied learning experience preparing the students for a career both behind as well as in front of the camera.
Print and New Media: The specialization enables students to work in diverse media ecosystems as journalists, analysts & communicators with subjects such as online journalism and social media, data and investigative journalism, and health communication with a hands-on project in magazine or specialized reporting.
Graphics and Animation: The specialization focuses on animation for multimedia and the web with a project on profile building that augments the portfolio of aspiring designers. It enables the students to build their skill set in website design and 3D character animation.
Film Studies: The specialization prepares the students to build a career in film art and aesthetics as film critics, film researchers, and academics with subjects like film appreciation, techniques of editing, and a project on short filmmaking.

MIC’s MAMC program has been highly successful in securing internships and placements for our students in leading media companies such as Thomson Reuters, Viacom, BBC, The Hindu, The Indian Express, Radio Mirchi, Radio City, Zee TV, Aaj Tak, Republic TV, CNBC Network 18, Kuku FM, Pocket FM, TAFE, Adfactors, Social Panga, Social Beat, MSL, CapitaLand, Vedanta, Adsyndicate, Accenture, Archetype, Weber Shandwick, Publicis Groupe, Google, Amazon, Zomato, to name a few.
