The Department of Geopolitics and International Relations (DGIR) at the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) intends to prepare the young minds of India, who are keen to know about geopolitical developments and the nation's role in it, to decipher the intricacies of world politics from India's standpoint. The Department, established in 2010, has been the first and only one in India offering Masters and Ph.D. programmes in the discipline of Geopolitics. The M. A. programme in Geopolitics and International Relations is designed in such a way so as to expose the students to the current geopolitical developments through a holistic, yet critical perspective. The programme features systematic study of several dimensions of geopolitics and international relations with an updated curriculum. In the Ph.D. programme, scholars carry out research on themes under recognized guides who have expertise in various domains within the discipline. The focus of the programmes is on providing theoretical and practical research skills on geopolitical issues to develop and nurture the next generation of strategic analysts. The Department draws students from diverse academic disciplines from various parts of the country, and the alumni of the Department are currently working and researching in the government and intergovernmental organizations, as well as esteemed universities, think tanks, corporate institutions and media houses. The Department has collaborated with governmental organizations and eminent domestic and foreign think tanks and universities for research, academic events and exchange programmes.
