Students have supervised access to vast and varied clinical material through the attached 2000-bed Kasturba Hospital, Manipal and equipment. We provide services covering the gamut of clinical Nephrology including treating OPD patients, Inpatients, critical care Nephrology, acute kidney injury, CKD, kidney transplantation (live, cadaver, ABO incompatible) and perform all nephrology procedures such as kidney biopsies, central venous catheterization both temporary and tunnelled, Haemodialysis, CRRT, plasmapheresis, hemoperfusion and peritoneal dialysis both acute and CAPD. The emphasis on bedside teaching, imparting practical skills, encouraging to do research under supervision and an excellent supportive faculty facilitates learning in a congenial atmosphere. Recently the department has broadened its spectrum by adding a dedicated Palliative care Nephrology and Paediatric Nephrology service. Presence within the University town of Manipal allows for learning and research of interdepartmental, interdisciplinary and interinstitutional nature.
Our team is highly motivated and dedicated. Our aim is to provide a holistic atmosphere to patients and students in order to achieve evidence-based care in a cost-effective manner and a complete learning experience. To this end care is provided in a team-based approach with constant motivation to faculty to update themselves.
