About the Department
The Department of Physiology was founded in 1953 and is one among the first departments established in KMC Manipal. Postgraduate training programme leading to M.Sc. in Physiology was introduced in 1967 and the M.D Physiology programme was introduced in 1976. Over the years, the department of Physiology has contributed a number of academicians whose legacy is well known in the field of Physiology. The department is actively involved in implementing innovative practices in teaching and learning. Many PhD scholars have completed their PhD in field of Physiology from the department
Faculty in the department have qualified doctorates in the field of Physiology. Each faculty has further diversified in an area that interests them which has contributed to the varying research profile of the department. Over the years, various laboratories to support research and diagnosis have been established. The Neurophysiology lab was established in collaboration with industry. The Autonomic function lab is involved in diagnosis. The current primary areas of research involvement in the department include neurophysiology, autonomic function testing, sports physiology, image analysis, and animal research. The postgraduate students are trained for a career in academics, research and diagnostics.
