B.Tech Curriculum Conclave for Computer Science Stream was held in an online mode at MIT Manipal, as per the following schedule.
Date: 12th October 2021 (Tuesday)
Time: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The program was inaugurated by Dr Keerthana Prasad, Director Manipal School of Information Sciences, Manipal. In her inaugural address she emphasized on including Practical Engineering Projects considering societal impact and Interdisciplinary Capstone Project. Introduction of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cyber Security, Java programming and Python was also recommended. She also highlighted on Unlearning and engaging in learning emerging courses and lifelong learning by integrating MOOCs based self-learning and Flip class room methodologies.
The invited speaker from academia, Prof. P Nagabhushan, Director, IIIT Allahabad spoke on “Engineering Curriculum - an overview”. He emphasized on the curriculum structure, starting from computer science foundation cores and moving on to diversified verticals like Machine Learning, parallel computing, edge computing and cloud computing. He also highlighted the need for application-oriented approach. He also stressed on the need for integrating theory with practical rather than treating them as two separate courses.
Prof. P Nagabhushan redefined the conventional L T P (Lecture, Tutorial and Practical) terminology by Listening, Transaction and Participatory learning.
Dr. Purnendu Sinha from Tata Sons Group Technology & Innovation Office delivered a talk on “Graduate Engineer- Industry Expectations”. He emphasized on the inclusion of advances in Artificial intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Deep Learning, Cloud and Edge computing, advanced algorithms, Ambient computing Robotics in the curriculum. He also spoke on importance of the core of computer communication like 5G/6G, Wi -Fi and Software defined Networking.
“Industry Expectations of Graduates and Future Ready Skill” was presented by Mr. Muniraju Pulipalayam, from Microsoft Research and Development, Bangalore. He focused on the need for learning the fundamentals right. He highlighted on introduction of critical thinking in all subjects. He emphasized on the importance of algorithm and foundations for all indicating that all the undergraduate should be digital literate at the entry level.
This was followed by presentations, from Alumni of the computer Science Stream. Some of them presented posters and some of them gave presentations on their “Dream Curriculum”. Mr Akash Budhia, Mr Shom Abraham, Mr. Puneet Kumar and Mr Yash Dhanuka presented their views on the curriculum.
Student and Faculty representatives from computer Science Streams presented their views on the curriculum related to their programs. Mr. Anutham Krishnan, Ms. Simran Malhotra, Ms. Shiva spoke from student side. Dr. Adesh N D, Dr. MuraliKrishna S N and Dr. Sumith N spoke as faculty representatives on their dream curriculum.
Ms. Anushree Bhat, Mr. Shikhar Srivastava and Mr. Akshat Upadhyay presented poster on their Dream Curriculum followed by poster presentations from faculty. Dr. Kaliraj S, Dr. Radhika Kamath and Dr. Raghavendra S presented posters from faculty side.
The event also had a Group Discussion among the students and faculty participants on the relevant topics. The group leaders highlighted the outcome of group discussion.
Associate Director (Academics), Dr. Raviraja Adhikari presented the initial model of B.Tech Curriculum Revision 2022.
The experts from Industry and Academia gave their remarks on the proceedings as well as on the curriculum revision.
Cdr. Dr. Anil Rana, Director of MIT Manipal gave away the concluding remarks and summarized the proceedings. He highlighted the need for constant up gradation in engineering curriculum.
The Associate Director (FD&W), Dr. Shankaranarayana Bhat delivered the welcome address in the beginning and presented the overview of the event.
The Vote of Thanks was proposed by the Joint Director of MIT Dr. Somashekara Bhat. He emphasized on incorporating Entrepreneurship and Research in UG curriculum
The Master of Ceremonies for the event were, Ms. Deepthi S, Assistant Professor - Senior Scale, Computer Science and Engineering and Ms. Ipsitha Upasana, Assistant Professor Information and Communication Technology. Mr. Raghavendra Bhat, Department of ICT rendered the Invocation.
This event was organized by Office of the Faculty Development and Welfare, under the leadership of Associate Director (FD&W), Dr. Shankaranarayana Bhat.
About 160 faculty members and students from various Departments including from computer Science Stream of MIT attended the online event.
