Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest and Immediate Support” an awareness program

It was conducted by department of Cardiology, KMC & Kasturba Hospital, Manipal and department of CVT, MCHP, MAHE, Manipal on 6th March 2020 at MGM College, Udupi. Dr. Sudhir Chandra Sudha, DHO, Udupi District and Dr. M G Vijay, Principal, MGM College, Udupi were invited as chief guests for the program which was presided by Dr. PLNG Rao, Pro Vice Chancellor- Faculty of Health Sciences, MAHE, Manipal, Dr. Sharath K Rao launched a short video on risk factors and immediate management of Acute Cardiac Infarction, Dr. Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal launched a short video of Basic Life Support along with Dr.Tom Devasia, Professor and Head of Cardiology, KMC, MAHE, Manipal.  

The main agenda behind this imitative was to sensitize the students on Cardiac arrest and to train them about basic life support steps. Videos of Basic life support steps and acute myocardial infarction were released during the launching ceremony. After the launching ceremony, the steps to identify cardiac arrest and to perform cardio pulmonary resuscitation effectively were demonstrated.

“Vaidyara Nade, Halligala Kade” activity by Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore  

In association with District health and family welfare department, Dakshina Kannada district, Mangalore, Department of Community Medicine with the help from other departments of Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore did a house-to-house survey activity as a part of “Vaidyara Nade, Halligala Kade” to facilitate rapid testing, treating for COVID 19 and isolating the population at their doorstep at Moodbidri Taluk and Kateel. The home survey was done with RAT screening of household members with Influenza-like illness in rural areas. More than 20 teams, with each team comprising of doctors interns, Tutors, faculty members), lab technicians from KMC and other supporting staff from government health centres. This activity went on nearly for a month wherein, more than 11000 houses and 48,000 peoples were screened.

This enables the general public to have access to expert medical advice through remote consultation thereby improving their health.
