DAHS ORIENTATION’14
On August 11th, 2014 Department of Allied Hospitality Studies, WGSHA, which is a constituent college of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education, organized an orientation. This orientation was scheduled for MSc. Dietetics (DAN) and MSc. Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) students.

The orientation started at 9 am with student registration and followed by a tea break with parents & faculty at Chhaya. The student registration continued till 1 pm and then the students along with their parents & faculty had an appetizing lunch. At 2.30 pm an interactive session was held in Chanakya for the fresher(s) by the faculty and the senior MSc. students. It began with the introduction in pairs followed by the management games like guess the personality by asking 5 questions. In the other game students were asked to make a team and pass a ball to one another in a specific pattern. Another game of saving yours and bursting others balloons was also played. The winners of every game were appreciated and awarded. Every student took part in one or the other activity. The program for the day concluded with everybody dancing on the beats! The elated students enjoyed and gained a lot from this ice breaking session which continued till 5 pm.
The orientation continued on August 12th, 2014 in the A/V room. Prof. Y G Tharakan, Co-ordinator, DAHS addressed the gathering and introduced them with the chief guest Dr. Vinod Bhat, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Manipal Academy of Higher Education. Mrs. P Gopalakrishnan, Principal, WGSHA then talked about the university’s statistics and the future of both Dietetics and Applied Nutrition as well as Hotel & Tourism Management. She gave the heartiest congratulations to both the students and their parents and wished them luck for future. Pro-vice chancellor, Mr. Vinod Bhat then briefed the audience about the university’s development over the past few years. He also talked about why one should join Manipal Academy of Higher Education in order to have a bright career. He concluded with his best wishes to the students. The orientation ended with a tea break for both students & faculty. The classes started thereafter for the students at 11 am.
The program was very successful as every fresher was overwhelmed by the warm welcome done by the faculty and the seniors. All thanks to the interactive session that every student got to know each other. This orientation for students made WGSHA a homely place to dwell in and promised fun-filled and better days ahead!!
