WGSHA alumnus and entrepreneur George M George of Muthoot group captivates the students on World Tourism Day

Manipal University post graduate students of Hospitality and Tourism Management organised a series of academic events to mark the World Tourism Day on 27th September 2014 to support the theme “Tourism and Community development”.
The Pro Vice Chancellor of the University Dr H Vinod Bhat in his address stressed the importance of Tourism activities as a contributor to the nations GDP. Dr Bhat also urged the students to engage in travelling as to enable them to develop a better understanding of tourism.
Principal Prof G Parvadhavardhini in her welcome message described some of the initiatives that have been recognised by the United Nations in India namely – Kumarakom and Uttarakhand for the contributions on community development and sustainable tourism.
WGSHA alumnus and Executive Director of Muthoot group, co-founder of Raxa Collective Mr George M George, captivated the students with real-time experiences of community development initiatives by ‘Raxa Collective’ across the world as a speaker for the day.
Later he awarded the winners of various World Tourism Day theme based competitions held as part of the celebration like Collage, Painting, Debate and Photography.
Ms Pallavi Patnaik a post graduate student presented a report of the initiatives taken by the college students at Kemthur village community in Udupi district.
HOD of the Department of Allied Hospitality Studies, Prof. Y G Tharakan thanked the gathering. Students Ms Nandini and Mr Krishjeet compered the occasion.
