“CONVERGING TOWARDS A HEALTHY WALK THROUGH LIFE”- NUTRITION MADE SIMPLE AND SUSTAINABLE.
National Nutrition Week (NNW) is an annual nutrition event of great importance and is observed every year in the country from 1st September to 7th September. In the year 1982 National Nutrition week celebration was started by the Central Government in India. The campaign was started to spread awareness and encourage people as a society to understand the importance of nutrition and adopt a healthy, sustainable lifestyle.
Every year, the Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics , has been celebrating National Nutrition week. Owing to its theme, this year despite the pandemic, nothing could stop from celebrating and educating people around. The sessions were held on a virtual platform, thanks to technology.
Nutrition week at Kasturba Hospital had an amazing start with the launch of educational video on “eating right” accessible to all the staffs followed by a display of “healthy meal” posters in the canteen. Healthy eating starts right where you get your food from was the motto. An array of options was displayed that was of great help for them to start with their journey of healthy and mindful eating.
Bringing in some fun, the department of Clinical Nutrition, held interactive sessions for the undergraduate Nutrition students of Manipal College of Health Professions, Manipal that was conducted on the following day. The young minds actively participated in the pick and speak, debate and the quiz competitions. It was amazing to have had an opportunity to conduct them virtually. Pandemic indeed made it fruitful somehow.
The official inaugural function that was organised by the department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics, Kasturba Hospital and Manipal College Of health Professions was conducted on the 6th of September. To top it off with a cherry, a quick talk on “Nutrition in a Nutshell”-A journey through the field of Nutrition Science that we tend to overlook was beautifully explained by Mrs. Pallavi Mahesh Shettigar, Assistant Professor, WGSHA, Manipal.
This year, the thought of dedicating one day to the wonderful, hardworking team of Nurses at Kasturba Hospital was a new initiative taken by the team. As a token of gratitude and with a view of making their lives easier and healthier, a power packed snack box was delivered to every one of them. Serve your nature and you’ll be rewarded in return. Owing to this motto and by doing the least that we could, technology came to the rescue. It could never be complete without delivering the right message to our amazing team. This time, with a twist, we handed out the education material that was easily accessible to them on the go without a single use of paper.
The week started off with a spark and much to our surprise, this was a huge success. It’s now time to energise, rejuvenate and revitalise. Today is always a best day to pick up a healthier lifestyle.
