A webinar titled "Regulations on Animal Experimentation" was successfully conducted on 2 December 2024 from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm by CARET in association with MCOPS and Research Ethics and Regulation Vertical of KMC Manipal, drawing over 300 registered participants. The program aimed to provide an in-depth understanding of animal experimentation regulations and ethical guidelines, which are crucial for researchers and academicians working in the field.
The event was hosted by MC Ms. Akshatha Kamath. Dr. Amrita Parida, Associate Professor Dept of Pharmacology, KMC delivered the welcome address, followed by opening remarks by Dr. Srinivas Mutalik, Principal, MCOPS. The session's speaker, Dr. Vivek Tyagi, Senior Consultant, CCSEA, Govt. of India, was introduced by Dr. Rahul Dutta, Assistant Professor Dept of Reproductive Science, KMC.
Dr. Tyagi delivered an engaging and informative session, covering a broad range of topics, including: CCSEA guidelines and their importance, Ethical considerations in animal experimentation and the necessity of maintaining ethical standards, Guidelines for laboratory animals and the roles of members within the Animal Ethics Committee (AEC), Detailed explanations on the layout of an animal house and the responsibilities of its members and Practical guidance on completing Form B and writing protocols for animal ethics approval.
The webinar concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, providing participants an opportunity to clarify their doubts. The event ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Nandakumar, Coordinator and Professor, Department of Pharmacology, MCOPS.
This highly insightful webinar highlighted the importance of adhering to ethical standards in animal research and provided participants with practical tools to implement the CCSEA guidelines effectively in their work.
