An atmosphere of gaiety enveloped during ‘Mathribhasha Diwas’ commemorating UNESCO’s International Mother Language Day

Resonating the wave of multilingualism from UNESCO, Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, celebrated Mathribhasha Diwas on February 21, 2017. Dr J Venkata Rao, professor of biotechnology, inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp and greeting in various Indian languages. Celebration mood ignited even more, as students from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds ranging from Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, Oriya and crossing the boundaries from Tibet, Korea, Iran, Nigeria and Tanzania showcased their cultural and linguistic wonders. The literature quiz and “Guess the Language” game sprinkled more glitters in the air as students put forth enthusiasm to compete and explore languages previously unknown to them. To add more flavours, a signature campaign in respective mother tongue was carried out by students and faculty members. The event was concluded by national anthem conveying the message that they remain united, despite the cultural differences. Mr Prasanna Kumar Shetty proposed the vote of thanks for the three hour long electrified event.
