Diabetes Screening Camp for Bus Drivers and Conductors at Kundapura

Department of Pharmacy Practice, MCOPS, Manipal Academy of Higher Education organized a diabetes screening camp for bus drivers and conductors at Kundapura on Sunday, 13th December 2015. The event was sponsored jointly by Rotary Club, Kundapura and Novartis Health Care Pvt. Ltd and was executed with the support of the Kasturba Hospital Manipal and Durgamba Motors. Nearly 400 bus employees and general public availed the benefit of the health screening camp. Dr. Karthik Rao, Asst. Professor, Kasturba Hospital, Ms Elsa Sanatombi Devi, Prof.& Head, Dept. of Medical Surgical Nursing, Dr.Sreedharan, Dr.Girish Thunga, Mr. Sonal Sekhar, Mr. Suhaj A and Mr. Prasanna Kumar Pharmacy of the Dept of Pharmacy Practice actively involved themselves in the camp along with students of Pharm.D, Nursing and M.Pharm-Pharmacy Practice. Bus drivers and conductors were delighted to participate in the event. One driver said: “We remain neglected by all. This is the first time in my driving career that I am seeing somebody taking interest in our health status”. Responding to the success of the camp, Dr. Unnikrishnan, Prof.& Head, Dept. of Pharmacy Practice said: “Being a social outreach programme, it would go a long way in generating goodwill in the community”
