“Vedic knowledge is a must for Ayurveda and Yoga Practitioners” Dr. David Frawley

Dr David Frawley, an eminent researcher and scholar of Indian history and yogic practices delivered an impressive lecture on vedic knowledge and yoga practices at MCOPS on 17 February 2016. Center for Integrative Medicine and Research (Manipal Academy of Higher Education) and Society for Ethnopharmacology (SFE) Manipal Chapter jointly organized the lecture. Dr Frawley opined that yoga is a part of Ayurvedic practice and is meant to build a healthy body with a healthy mind. He advocated the knowledge of Vedas for both yoga and Ayurvedic practitioners. His affirmation that ‘yoga is not a treatment for illnesses but an aid to promote healthy thought processes and consciousness among patients’ was well received by the large gathering that had assembled at Dr. P Gundu Rao Lecture Hall. Dr. N Udupa, Convener of SFE, Manipal Chapter and Director of Research, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, welcomed the gathering and introduced the guest speaker. Dr. M Sreenivasa Reddy, vice principal MCOPS proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. Saleemulla Khan (Assistant Professor, Pharmacognosy and Secretary, SFE) conducted the proceedings.
