Guest Lecture by Dr Vineet Kumar Singh

Department of Pharmacognosy organized its second guest lecture webinar through MST, on 23 Dec 2022 from 9.30 am to 11.00 am. Dr Vineet Kumar Singh, Senior Manager – Phytochemistry (R&D), Natural Remedies Pvt Ltd. Bengaluru India was the resource person. The topic of the webinar was ‘"Identification & Characterization of Phytoconstituents in Herbal extracts”. Dr. Richard Lobo, Prof & Head, Department of Pharmacognosy, welcomed the speaker and the participants and introduced the speaker. Dr. Singh, an eminent Scientist, Phyto chemist and Analyst, deliberated on brief history of the industry and their achievements. In his lecture he emphasized on accessing the quality of the raw materials and how phytoconstituents vary in different geographical conditions and its impact on formulations, isolation and spectroscopic characterization. He also deliberated on how these spectroscopic techniques not only help in identification of the compounds but also provide information about the impurities present in the isolated compounds. Dr Vineet substantiated his points with well documented examples. The lecture was very informative and well appreciated by the participants.After the lecture Dr. Vineet interacted with participants and answered all the quarries raised by them. The lecture was attended by more than 30 participants. Dr Vasudev R Pai, Assistant Professor Selection grade, coordinated the guest lecture, Dr Richard Lobo proposed the vote of thanks.
