Alumni Engagement Guest Lecture Series – 17/2023

The Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal, organized a captivating guest lecture titled "Management of Pancreatic Infections", on November 8, 2023, between 2 and 3 pm. The target audience was the third-semester BSc and first-year PBBSc Nursing students.
Ms. Maryl Cutinho, an alumnus of MCON, MSc Nursing (2015–2017 batch), with her vast academic credentials in MSc Nursing and work experience as a staff nurse in hepatobiliary surgery, Royal Infirmary, Manchester University, NHS Foundation Trust, Manchester, UK led the discussion.
She has discussed various aspects of pancreatic infections, with more emphasis on acute and chronic pancreatitis. She has elaborated on the causes, presenting symptoms, diagnostic measures, and the protocol for managing patients with pancreatitis in their settings with relevant examples. The lecture also explored the concept of patient education with pancreatic infections and care in the community after patient discharge with nasojejunal feeds. She presented a case study of necrotizing pancreatitis and detailed the complications and the patient’s progress.
The session was both interesting and inspiring, providing a comprehensive understanding of the concepts and the practical implications of the care of patients with pancreatitis. It garnered participation from a total of 149 attendees, consisting of students and faculty members of the college.
