Manipal College of Nursing (MCON) Manipal observed World Breastfeeding Week from August 1 to 7, 2017 on the theme “Sustaining Breastfeeding: building alliances without conflicts of interest!”
Number of activities were organized for the nurses, ASHA workers, postnatal mothers, family members and the public. The theme focused on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for maternal and child health, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), nutrition, education, poverty, inclusive economic growth and reducing inequalities by 2030 through the three pillars to increase breastfeeding ie, protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding. The activities were planned by Department of Child Health Nursing, Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing and Community Health Nursing of Manipal College of Nursing Manipal based on the theme, action ideas and the objectives given by Breastfeeding Promotion Network of India (BPNI) to achieve sustainable development goals.
Manipal College of Nursing Manipal bagged the “Best Celebration Award” for the “Outstanding” contribution towards celebration of World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) 2017. Breastfeeding Promotion Network of India (BPNI) coordinated the actions towards WBW 2017 contest. An expert committee scrutinized the 98 reports received from all parts of India on a set scale and twenty winners announced. Manipal College of Nursing was one among the 98 organizations to receive the award and the only nursing college to participate in the contest.
