Children’s Day celebration at Asha Nilaya
November 20, 2024
Children’s Day serves as a reminder of the importance of recognizing the rights, potential, and happiness of all children. It is essential to acknowledge that specially abled children, like their peers, are entitled to love, care, and opportunities for growth. The program aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3—Good Health and Wellbeing, Goal 10–Reduced Inequalities; and Goal 11—Sustainable Cities and Communities. On the occasion of Children’s Day, undergraduate and postgraduate nursing students from Manipal College of Nursing, along with faculty members from the Department of Child Health (Pediatric) Nursing and PhD scholars, visited Asha Nilaya, a school for specially-abled children. The event aimed to celebrate the spirit of childhood, promoting inclusivity and joy among all children, irrespective of their abilities.
The program included a vibrant display of dance performances, with contributions from both the nursing students and the children of Asha Nilaya. This was followed by engaging games, which brought much excitement and joy to the participants. Prizes were distributed to all involved, ensuring that every child felt valued and appreciated. The event concluded with the distribution of refreshments, and the nursing students, faculty, and scholars bid farewell to the children, leaving behind memorable moments.
These children, though they may face unique challenges, are just as capable of learning, developing, and experiencing the joys of childhood as any other child. The visit reinforced the message that every child, regardless of their abilities, deserves to be celebrated and supported in their journey. A total of 35 students from BSc Nursing, two students from MSc Nursing, two PhD Scholars, two faculty members and 81 students, 15 teachers, and staff from Ashanilaya attended the event. Both students and teachers highly appreciated the program, acknowledging its engaging content and effective organization. Their positive feedback added to the event’s success and highlighted its impact.
