Dr. Savitha Prabhu and Dr. Binu Margaret, SNA advisors, and Mr. Nickhil Castelino, SNA president of the college briefed about the Student Nurses Association (SNA). He explained the students’ participation and activities held by the SNA. He also explained on membership of SNA and TNAI.
Mrs. Sheela Shetty, Assistant Professor -Sr Scale briefed on MCON Social Media and Website, Twitter, Linkedin, Facebook, and YouTube channel of MCON. Orientation to the ISO:14001: 2004 and IELTS training, NHS, UK recruitment was given to the freshers’ by Dr. Elsa Sanatombi Devi, Professor, and Dy. Director, CCEID MAHE, Director M-FIILIPE.
Mrs. Reshma R Kotian, Lecturer, MCON Manipal, delivered a session on LPG safety measures. She briefed the steps to be taken before, during, and after the use of LPG and also the safety tips. Mr Leslie D’ Souza, Chief Fire safety officer, MAHE has conducted a fire mock drill session. He explained and demonstrated different types of fire and how to deal with it. Mrs. Prima J J D’Souza, the Examination Coordinator of the college gave a brief orientation on the Epad examination system.
A guest lecture on “Trust, Respect and Glory” was organized by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal. The session was deliberated by Mr. Renjulal Yashodharan, Assistant Professor (Sr Scale), Department of Mental Health Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal. He stressed the importance of being in friendship and how carefully the friends are to be selected since they will be trusted throughout. He even taught about five different types of trust in friendship and which type of trust to be avoided. Students were encouraged to have their first line of trust in teachers when they are away from home.

Mr. Renjulal, Sports Coordinator, MCON, Manipal briefed on the various sports facilities available on campus. He emphasized ‘Marena Indoor Stadium’, a world-class facility for indoor sports, and informed all about its timings and amenities.
Orientation to 1st semester BSc Nursing course was given by Mrs. Charlet Jasmine Vaz, the Class coordinator. The students were briefed regarding the Anti-Ragging committee by Dr. Melita Sheilini, Assistant Professor- Selection Grade, MCON, MAHE, Manipal. She explained the online submission of the anti-ragging declaration by students and parents and also stressed the consequences of ragging on campus. Mrs. Joyce Sangeetha Henry, SRF Secretary, MAHE, Manipal oriented about the Student Research Forum at MCON and MAHE and discussed various opportunities available to the students in the research area. She also explained about publication and its importance. Introduction to add-on courses, open electives, and value-added courses was done by Dr. Savitha Prabhu, Faculty, MCON MAHE, Manipal.
A lecture session on “Love and Gratitude in Nursing” was organized by the Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, MCON, MAHE Manipal from 10.30 am to 11.30 am. The resource person Mrs. Priyanka Krishnan, with her vast academic credentials in Applied Psychology, including MA, MPhil, and MSP, led the discussion. She touched on various relevant topics such as positive psychology, its significance in promoting wellbeing, and its role in the mental health field. The lecture explored the concept of love and gratitude indepth, elucidating the importance of these emotions in healthcare.
Dr. Anjaline D’Souza, Alumni Coordinator, MCON, Manipal explained about the MCON alumni and collected the alumni referral details. The Department of Fundamentals of Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing, Manipal organized a guest lecture on "Substance Abuse" from 11.30 am to 12.30 pm. Dr Binil V, Associate Professor, Department of Mental Health Nursing, was the session’s speaker. The speaker highlighted the importance of drug use among the recent Z generation and how they are exposed to information much faster. He also said substance abuse works in the following line of action "Use-Abuse-Dependence".

Subject orientation of Applied Anatomy was given by Dr. Bincy M George, Associate Professor & Division Coordinator, Department of Basic Medical Sciences, MAHE, Manipal.
Students shared their brief details, viz: their name, place of residence, and their areas of interest and hobbies. Through this session, it was understood that many students are multi-talented and students are having interests in different fields such as photography, dancing, instrument playing, singing, sports, traveling, cooking, drawing, trekking, and many more.
Further, there was an orientation to ‘Utsav’ – an annual inter-college cultural festival and activities of the cultural coordination committee by Mrs.Sweety Fernandes, Cultural Coordinator, MCON, MAHE, Manipal. She spoke on various events conducted by the cultural coordination committee and the importance of participating in cultural events
A guest lecture on Guidance and mentoring was organized by the Department of Mental Health Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal from 11.30 am to 12.30 pm. The resource person was Mrs. Shilpa Joshi, Student Counselor, Department of Student Affairs, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal. She discussed the challenges faced by the students in their college life. She focused on how to analyze a difficult situation by using SWOT.
Followed by this session, the Subject orientation of Applied Physiology was given by Dr. Sujatha Prabhu P, Assistant Professor, Department of Basic Medical Sciences, MAHE, Manipal.
Dr R.adhika R Pai, Faculty, MCON oriented on MS Team and Impartus lecture capturing and its practical use. She further explained academic features such as accessing educational materials and communicating with teachers and classmates.
A guest lecture session on “ Good study habits and Reverance” was organized by the Department of Child Health Nursing, MCON, MAHE Manipal from 3.00 pm to 4.00 pm. The session was deliberated by, Dr. D Sreedhar, Associate Professor, MCOPS, Manipal. He focused on the importance of cultivating good study habits and its need in present generation students. He stressed the importance of time management
Followed by this session, an orientation to innovation cell activities was conducted by Ms. Jeyalakshmi, Assistant Professor-Sr Scale, MCON, MAHE, Manipal.
August 5, 2023:
The last day of the program began with the orientation to the subject - Communicative English by Ms. Sanju Pant, Lecturer, MCON, Manipal. The Health and Social Welfare Committee of the Students Nurses Association, MCON, MAHE, Manipal organized a session on “Menstrual Hygiene” from 09.00 am to 10.00 am. Mrs. Pratibha, Assistant Professor, Department of OBG Nursing, MCON, MAHE, was the resource person. The session focused on rituals followed during menstruation in different religions, the availability of different sanitary products, and how to maintain menstrual hygiene including usage and disposal of sanitary products. She emphasized the simple ways to maintain environmental hygiene in the college, hostel, and hospital. Simultaneously Dr. Shashidhara YN, Professor, MCON, Manipal focused on Men's health and stressed physical and mental health.
The Community Health Nursing Department organized a guest lecture on “Care and Affection” by Dr. Leena Sequira, Principal, MSON, MAHE, Manipal, an experienced and renowned healthcare professional who provided valuable information and guidance to the students about the fundamental aspects of caring for individuals in a healthcare setting with a strong focus on one of the most critical Sustainable Development Goals, the Education Committee of SNA conducted an enlightening awareness session titled "GENDER SENSITIZATION" by Dr. Jagriti Gangopadhyay, Assistant Professor, at Manipal Centre for Humanities, MAHE, Manipal from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. She described the standards that promote gender equality and inclusivity, the stereotypes that society adheres to, and the significance of promoting gender sensitization.
The afternoon session started with a guest lecture which was organized by the Education Committee of Student Nurses’ Association 2023 -24 on the theme "Communication Skills at Workplace” between 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm and the session was delivered by Ms. Prathibha Lydia Braggs, Junior Research Fellow, MCON, MAHE, Manipal. She discussed the importance of effective communication and the strategies to improve communication at the workplace. She also emphasized that effective workplace communication is crucial for building strong relationships, enhancing collaboration, resolving conflicts, and achieving organizational goals efficiently.
The orientation program was concluded by subject orientation to the Nursing Foundation by Mrs.Laveena Barboza, Lecturer, MCON, Manipal. A total of 134 first semester BSc Nursing students attended and benefitted from this orientation program and guest lecture sessions. The sessions helped in achieving the following SDGs: SDG 3 - Good health and well being, SDG 4- Quality Education, and SDG 5 - Gender Equality..
