On October 1, 2024, the National Service Scheme (NSS) and Volunteer Services Organization (VSO) Units of Manipal College of Nursing (MCON) conducted a project called "Hygiene Heroes." This project involved an educational session for school students to raise awareness about the importance of hygiene. 19 students from Manipal College of Nursing, along with VSO faculty coordinator Dr Maria Pais, visited St. Anthony's English Medium School in Sasthan for this initiative. Sessions on Daan Utsav, personal hygiene, grooming, nutrition, good touch, and bad touch were deliberated for the students. They also participated in a role-play on personal hygiene. Engaging activities like games and a talent show were organized for the students, followed by prize distribution. A total of 280 students participated in this program and expressed that the program was good.
On October 4, 2024, during Daan Utsav, the National Service Scheme (NSS) and Volunteer Services Organization (VSO) Units of Manipal College of Nursing (MCON) organized a project called Aarogya Rakshane. The project aimed to prevent diseases and promote health. Twenty-one students, along with VSO faculty coordinator Dr. Maria Pais from Manipal College of Nursing, visited The Happy Home for the Aged at Uppor. They conducted health check-ups, including checking blood pressure and sugar levels, for 26 inmates of the Old Age Home. Additionally, they distributed fruits and organized activities such as talent shows and dance performances. The inmates all expressed that the program was good. This program is aligned with Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), as it serves to raise awareness about health and hygiene practices among the public, contributing to a healthier and cleaner environment for all.
