Report on Faculty Development Program 2024

The Continuing Nursing Education Committee of Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal, organised the Faculty Development Program on July 16 & 18, 2024. Dr. Sushmitha R. Karkada, Assistant Professor Senior Scale, Department of OBG Nursing, MCON Manipal MAHE, welcomed the chief guest and the gathering during the inaugural function. The chief guest for the inaugural session, Dr Karunakar A. Kotegar, Director, Office of International Affairs & Collaborations, MAHE Manipal, sensitized the faculty about the importance of updating their knowledge in the professional field. He also emphasized collaboration with international faculty and adjunct faculty at the institutional level. Dr. Judith A Noronha, Dean, Manipal College of Nursing Manipal, MAHE addressed the gathering. In her speech, she emphasized to incorporate newer knowledge gained from the sessions in academics.

 On July 16, 2024, the first session was on  Jamovi software by Dr  Vanilakshmi R, Assistant Professor-Sr. Scale, Dept. of Data Science, Prasanna School of Public Health, MAHE . She had an interactive session on data analysis using the above software, with examples.

 In the afternoon, Dr Vimala Ramoo, Senior Lecturer, Department of Nursing Science, Faculty of Medicine, University Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, had an online session on organizational communication. She highlighted types of communication with patients, colleagues, and other team members to achieve the goals of an organization.

The last online session of the day was on creating online evaluation forms through LMS by Mr Jithin Vijayan, an expert from Edu Tech. He explained how to create online clinical evaluation forms and assessment methods.

On July 18, 2024, Dr. Manojkumar Nagasampige, Director - Center for Online Education, MAHE, conducted a session on the design and development of online courses. He emphasized online courses with the ADDIE institutional design model, learning styles, resources required, requirements to start online courses, digital skills or creativity, and content creation in online education.

The next interactive session was by Dr Rameela Shekar, Mental Health professional, Manashanthi, Mangaluru on enhancing the quality of student-teacher partnerships. She emphasized the contributing factors to a healthy academic environment and the impact of societal changes on youth with live examples. She also highlighted the role of teachers in relationship building, practising fairness and consistency.

Dr. Santhosh KV, Deputy Director-Research (Technical) & Professor, Department of Instrumentation and Control Engineering, conducted a session on AI tools in scientific writing in the afternoon.  He explained Generative AI,  and how to use the different types of tools such as Paperpal, Openread. academy, Explain paper.com, Top AI tool, Scopus AI and how to design by using different types of tool designers such as copilot designer, Jenni.AI, Yomu.AI, and Heuristica AI in scientific writing.

The sessions were based on SDG No. 3: Quality Education. A total of 65 faculty members attended FDP 2024. Ms. Flavia S Noronha, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatric (Mental Health) Nursing, MCON Manipal, MAHE was the emcee for the two-day programme.
