Report on International Clinical Placement of Nurse Practitioner students from MGH Institute of Health Professions, Boston
International Clinical Placement for 3 weeks from January 3rd to 24th January 2020.
Nurse Practitioner students of MGH Institute of Health Professions, Boston had their International Clinical Placement at Manipal College of Nursing Manipal. A total of five students with their Faculty Coordinators Dr. Elissa Ladd, Associate Professor and Dr. Kaveri Roy, Assistant Professor, MGH Boston were part of this program. Their clinical placement was scheduled in Intensive Care Units, Emergency Department, Maternity and Child health wards, Psychiatry ward and rehabilitation units of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal.
Students participated in the Indo-US Workshop on "Interprofessional Learning and Collaborative Practice" on 15th January 2020.
During their placement in Intensive Care Units, case-based discussion with ‘Nurse Practitioner in critical care’ students of MCON guided by faculty coordinators and medical preceptor was held, which helped the students to gain an in-depth understanding of the best practices in patient management from both the countries.
A brief visit to the primary health center, morbidity clinic and rural community home visit were the other scheduled activities. They also had observational visits to experience theatre, Health Sciences Library, Marena Sports Complex, Department of Yoga, Department of Ayurveda and Manipal Museum of Anatomy and Pathology.
The international clinical placement concluded with the feedback report presentation on 24/01/2020. Students expressed that they had a good learning experience in Manipal. The overall program was coordinated by Dr Soumya Christabel, Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing. The other faculty members involved in the program are Dr Shashidhara Y N, Department of Community Health Nursing, Mrs Rochelle, Department of Mental Health Nursing and Mrs Pratibha, Department of OBG Nursing.
