A workshop on “Updates in Paediatric Nursing” was organized by Department of Child Health Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal on 25th October, 2019 for the nursing students, staff nurses and nursing faculty.

Dr. Shrikiran Hebbar, Professor and Head, Department of Paediatrics, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal graced the occasion as chief guest. Dr Baby S Nayak, Professor and Head, Department of Child Health Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal, welcomed the gathering.
Dr. Judith A Noronha, Associate Dean, MCON, MAHE, Manipal addressed the gathering said about the importance of continuing nursing education to update the knowledge of nursing fraternity.
The second session was on ‘Pediatric drug calculation’ by Dr. Mamatha S Pai, Professor, Department of Child Health Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal. She highlighted on fluid and medication calculation for children of different age groups with examples, rights of medication administration and importance of drug calculation.
The next session was on ‘Guidelines on skin care by Mrs. Yashoda S, Assistant Professor, Department of Child health Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal, in which she discussed regarding new guidelines for skin care, its importance and nurses role in preventing pressure sores.
The last session of the day was on ‘Nursing Process’ by Mrs. Binu Margaret, Assistant Professor, Department of Child health Nursing. MCON, MAHE, Manipal. She emphasized on the developmental consideration of children and applying steps of nursing process in planning and providing quality care using case based scenarios.
Sixty five participants including staff nurses, teaching staffs and nursing students of various institutions from Manipal, Udupi and Mangalore attended the workshop. The sessions were interactive and informative. Mrs. Sangeetha Priyadarshini, Assistant Professor, Department of Child health Nursing MCON, MAHE, Manipal, delivered the vote of thanks.
