Report of World Diabetes Day screening program and Health Education
As part of World Diabetes Day, the Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal has conducted the ‘Diabetes Screening and Health Education’ program on November 14, 2021, at the Ground Floor of MCON from 9:00 am. The II year MSc Nursing - Critical Care Nursing and Cardiovascular and Thoracic Nursing speciality students were part of the program. The participants were the general public. After the initial check of height, weight and BMI, the participants were guided to the counter where the blood pressure and Random Blood Sugar was checked. Every participant was given the Health Check Cards with their brief identity. All those who came for health check-ups were given health education which was customized to the nondiabetics and diabetics focusing on the risk factors, clinical manifestations, complications and management including lifestyle modifications, foot care and medication adherence. Those who are diabetic and are on insulin therapy were reiterated on the technique of insulin administration and tips to be followed for the safe administration of insulin and prevention of insulin-induced complications.
A total of 100 people were screened and those identified with blood pressure and the blood sugar level out of control and were not on regular treatment were emphasized to undergo further checkups. The programme came to an end at 1:00 pm. Dr.Melita Sheilini, Asst.Professor-Selection Grade, MCON and Dr Elsa Sanatombi Devi, Professor, MCON coordinated the program.
