The Department of Community Health Nursing and 2nd year PBBSc Nursing (Batch-II) students of Manipal College of Nursing, conducted a General Health Check-up, Dental screening & treatment camp in collaboration with Public Health Dentistry, MCODS, MAHE, Manipal at Spandana Rehabilitation Center, Kelakudru, Salmara, Uppoor, on 3rd February 2023 between 9.30am to 12.45 pm.

Mr Janardan, In-charge of the rehabilitation centre welcomed the gathering and briefed about the activities of the camp to the inmates of the centre. The camp was inaugurated by lighting the lamp and an invocation is rendered by an inmate of the rehabilitation centre.

The different stations were arranged for the registration, assessment (height and weight checking), BP monitoring, blood sugar assessment, dental screening and treatment.

After the registration, forty-seven mentally challenged persons (inmates) from the rehabilitation center were screened for hypertension and diabetes mellitus by nursing students. The dental health check-up and treatment was provided to them by the faculty and students of Public Health Dentistry, Manipal College of Dental Sciences, MAHE, Manipal and they also provided referrals for further treatment and follow-up care. Games were conducted by the nursing students to the inmates of the rehabilitation center.

The students thanked all the faculty and students of MCODS and staffs of the rehabilitation centre for their support and help for the conduct of the program.

Out of forty two inmates who were screened for GRBS, four had GRBS values higher than the normal and out of forty seven screened for blood pressure, six had high blood pressure values than the normal. The inmates with normal BMI were 28, underweight five, nine were overweight and obese five.
