Guest Lecture on “Trauma Assessment: An International Perspectives”

Road-traffic collisions are increasing at an annual rate of 3%. A vehicular accident is reported every 2 minutes, and a death every 8 minutes on Indian roads could hinder attaining SDG 3. To prepare the nurses to deal with trauma victims, the Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing, Manipal, organized an effective alumni engagement Guest Lecture on “Trauma assessment: An International Perspective” on May 03, 2023, between 11.30 am & 12.30 pm to 4th Semester BSc Nursing students through Microsoft Teams Platform. Mr. Sujith Thankachan George (BSc (N) Batch: 2010- 2014) Deputy Manager, South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust, UK spoke on the topic. He emphasized various guidelines to be followed for major trauma assessments in the UK. He also discussed various career advancement opportunities available for nurses in the field of trauma nursing. The speaker also detailed the trauma code activation, the trauma nursing process, and the job responsibilities of a trauma lead nurse. A total of 115 participants, including 4th Semester B.Sc (N), and faculty members of the college, participated in the session.

The session was interactive, and students participated with great enthusiasm. The session ended at 11:55 am.
