National Youth Day is observed in India on January 12 on the birthday of Swami Vivekananda. In 1984 the Government of India declared the day as the ‘National Youth Day’ and since 1985 the event is celebrated in India every year. Swami Vivekananda was a great person who always believed in the youth power to lead and nourish the historical culture of the country.
Philosophies, teachings and ideas of Swami Vivekananda are the great cultural and traditional assets of India. Youth are the most important part of the country who lead the country ahead, that’s why youths are selected to be inspired first by the ideas and ideals of Swami Vivekananda. So, the National Youth Day is celebrated every year to encourage and inspire the honorable youths of our country. Schools and colleges are delightfully adorned to enthusiastically celebrate the event.
Dept. of Community Health Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing Manipal, observed National Youth Day 2017 at U S Nayak High School, Patla on 13th January 2017. The programme commenced with prayer song followed by welcome speech by Ms. Neola Jennifer, 4th year BSc Nursing student. Chief guest of the programme was Mr. Annaya Nayak, Secretary, Rural Education Society, Udupi. He stressed the importance of following the words of Vivekananda to inculcate the moral values among young generation.
