WEBINAR ON QUANTITATIVE NURSING RESEARCH 18-20 MAY, 2022
The three days webinar on quantitative nursing research commenced on 18.05.2022 through Microsoft Teams online Platform. This was organized by the first-year students of the Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care (NPCC) Postgraduate Residency Program, Medical-Surgical Nursing department, in collaboration with Pillar 2 (IoE): Exemplary Research and Innovation of Manipal College of Nursing (MCON), MAHE, Manipal.
The webinar commenced with a welcome address by the student convenor, Ms. Madhumita Gorai, followed by the inaugural address by Dr.Tessy Treesa Jose, Associate Dean, MCON, MAHE focusing on the need for research.
The three days webinar highlighted eleven topics in the area of quantitative nursing research, which was deliberated on the forenoons (9.00 am-1.00 pm) on all three days from 18.05.2022 to 20.05.2022. The first day of the webinar started with the session on Research Process and Writing Research Proposal followed by Conceptual Framework and Quantitative Research Designs which were deliberated by Dr. Shashidhara Y N, Professor & Head, Department of Community Health Nursing, Dr. Mamatha S Pai, Professor, Department of Child Health Nursing and Dr. Melita Sheilini, Asst. Professor selection grade, Medical-Surgical Nursing department, MCON, MAHE, Manipal respectively.
The second day (19.05.2022) of the webinar began with the deliberation on the topic of Literature Search by Ms.Anupama D S, Research Assistant, and Ph.D. Scholar, MCON, MAHE followed by Data Collection Techniques and Methods, and Data collection instruments-Validity and Reliability by, Dr. Sonia R B D’souza, Professor & Head, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecological Nursing and Dr. Jyothi Chakrabarty, Professor & Head, Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing respectively. The day’s sessions ended with the detailing of Sample Size Estimation by Dr. Ravishankar N. Assistant Professor, Department of Biostatistics, Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute, University of Delhi.
The third day (20.05.2022) of the webinar highlighted on, Sampling & Ethics in Research and CTRI registration process by Dr. Soumya Christabel, Assistant Professor-Senior scale & Mr. Anil Raj, Asst. Professor, Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing MCON, MAHE. Analysis and Interpretation of data, and Writing for publication and communicating research findings were dealt by Dr. Sushmitha R Karkada, Asst. Professor-senior scale, department of Obstetrics & Gynecological Nursing, and Dr. Elsa Sanatombi Devi, Professor, Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, MCON, MAHE respectively.
Total of 57 participants (50 students (NPCC and MSc Nursing & 7 faculty (One Non-nursing and 6 nursing) attended the webinar from 10 states namely Karnataka, Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Meghalaya, Kashmir, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Kerala. The overall response by the participants was good. The sessions of the three days webinar were moderated by Mr. Athaullah S, Ms. Madhumita Gorai, Ms.Sukanya Prabhu and Ms.Abinaya T, the student organizers of the first-year NPCC program.
The webinar concluded on the third day with the closing remarks by the Dean, MCON Dr. Judith Angelitta Noronha at 12.30 pm followed by the words of gratitude expressed by the student convenor. The three days webinar was coordinated by Dr. Melita Sheilini, Asst. Professor selection grade, department of Medical-Surgical Nursing under the guidance of Dr. Baby S Nayak, Professor, and the Research Pillar Head, and Dr. Jyothi Chakrabarty, Professor and NPCC coordinator, MCON, MAHE, Manipal.
