Student Collaboration Activity series 7: “Communication with visually and hearing impaired children”

As part of the Student Collaboration activity, a session on communication with visually and hearing impaired children was organized on 8th September 2022 from 10:30 AM to 12: 00 PM at MCON, Manipal. The session was taken by Dr. Tony Bewley, Senior Lecturer & Program Coordinator, School of Nursing, EdgeHill University, UK & adjunct faculty of MCON, MAHE, and Dr. Sunila John, Associate Professor, Department of Speech and Hearing, Manipal College of Health Professions (MCHP), MAHE. A total of 12 participants from MCON and five from EdgeHill University actively participated in the session.
The interactive session focused on ‘Communicating with children with visual or hearing problems'. The session addressed different types of communication problems, prerequisites for speech and language development, augmentative and alternative communication modes, and ways to communicate with children with complex communication needs.
The session was moderated by Dr. Linu Sara George, HoD, Fundamentals of Nursing, MCON and Dr. Radhika R Pai, Assistant Professor – Senior Scale, Fundamentals of Nursing, MCON.
