Report of health education on management of side effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy
February 06, 2024
Chemotherapy and radiation therapy fight cancer by destroying cancer cells. Although chemotherapy and radiation are designed to kill cancer cells while sparing healthy tissue, these treatments sometimes damage or destroy normal cells. The harm to normal cells may cause side effects. In this regard, the Health Education Committee of SNA 2023-2024 of Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal, conducted a health education program on the topic 'Management of patients with side effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy' on February 5, 2024, in Shirdi Block, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal. Mr. Pradeep and Ms. Shreya, representatives of the committee from II PBBSc (N) and IV year BSc (N) spoke on the management of side effects for patients receiving chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Ms. Lisa Aslin and Ms. Vina Tina, IV year BSc (N) demonstrated exercises with music, and the participants involved themselves enthusiastically. A total of 41 participants actively participated in the session and gave good feedback. The programme was coordinated by the committee advisor, Mrs Shobha, Lecturer, Department of OBG Nursing, and co-advisor, Mrs. Rishmitha, Lecturer, Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing. The programme contributed to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being.
