Observation of World Suicide Prevention Day 2024

The Department of Psychiatric (Mental Health) Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, organised a series of impactful events from September 4th to 12th, 2024, in recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day. Themed “Change the Narrative on Suicide,” these events were planned to enhance awareness, inspire action, and emphasize the importance of mental health and suicide prevention.
To create awareness among school children, a session was organized for the students of Manipal PU College, Manipal, on September 4, 2024, at 2.30 pm. Mrs. Flavia Sharlet Noronha, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatric (Mental Health) Nursing, MCON, MAHE, was the resource person for the event. She spoke on the warning signs, myths, facts, and simple preventive measures of suicide.
A radio talk on “Our responsibilities in preventing suicide” was broadcast on 8th September 2024 at 8:30 pm at Akashavani, Mangaluru. Ms. Sanju Pant, Lecturer, Department of Psychiatric (Mental Health) Nursing, MCON Manipal, was the speaker. She spoke on the common causes, risk factors, myths and facts, and warning signs of suicide. She also emphasized the fact that most suicide instances are preventable and elaborated on preventive strategies.
